Head of Boys’ Gymnastics + GFA/General Cover
Outline
Meridian is a new club, having opened in 2019 in a purpose-built facility, that delivers gymnastics to over 500 gymnasts from WAG performance pathway, down to weekly Gym For All and Preschool classes. A family run business, Meridian prides itself of a commitment to gymnastics at all levels, with a thriving squad programme that encompasses all levels of competitive gymnastics and a 300 strong Gym For All and General Gymnastics programme who are encouraged to progress via structured sessions, in-house and invitational competitions and a multi-strand awards programme. We have a strongly supportive atmosphere, with positive relationships among staff and between coaches and gymnasts.
With a planned move into a larger facility next year, we are looking to employ a coach to build and develop our provision for both an extended GFA/General Programme and to begin to build and develop a boys’ general, development and squad gymnastics programme ready for them to become a more developed and integral part of our provision in our new facility.
The role
The role is expected to develop over time and the successful applicant must be prepared to work flexibly and be fully integrated into all areas of the gym in the first 18 months of the role (subject to the successful build and opening of the new building). The applicant will take over the existing boys’ general squad, development and mini groups and begin to develop these to reach their full potential. The role will require the vision to structure and create an emergent MAG and competing Boys’ General Gymnastics side. Over the first 18 months we anticipate that any full-time applicant would spent at least 50% of the time working in Preschool, GFA and General Gymnastics, and supplying squad cover at all levels below Elite WAG and supporting the gym and coaches in whatever way was required. We anticipate that as our boys’ side grows, this will tail off until it becomes a full time MAG and Boys’ Development and General Gymnastics role. This will be an evolving role in a gym that is still developing its overall structure and format and the successful applicant should be a team player who enjoys innovation and project planning and is happy to be deployed across the gym as need arises.
The successful applicant should: –
- Have a minimum of a MAG Level 2 (British Gymnastics Qualification) and be prepared to work towards MAG Level 3 modules and beyond over time. They must have a current, clean DBS check.
- Have experience and understanding of current MAG Club Grades and the current competitive opportunities open to boys of all levels.
- Be able to work weekends and evenings as required.
- Be prepared to work with gymnasts of all genders and abilities, particularly in the initial phase of the appointment, and have experience in recreational gymnastics.
- Enjoy developing less experienced coaches as part of a coach education programme.
- Be confident to partake in administrative tasks pertinent to the role as and when required.
- Be prepared to cover groups at all levels as and when required.
Working Hours, Salary & Benefits
Number of hours per week and shifts can be adapted for the right applicant but will include shifts between 3.30-9pm and may include shifts to 10pm. There will be regular weekend hours. The role can be negotiated between 20-35 hours per week. We may consider a part-time boys’ only coaching role for the right applicant.
Meridian has a fixed incremental pay scale that rewards coaches for the qualification level, including for Level 3 modules both attended and passed, with additional rewards for responsibility and experience.
Coaches pay for their own yearly British Gymnastics insurance, but the club pays for all welfare and safeguarding courses and for DBS checks. In addition, a coach can expect to have courses paid for that will benefit the club and gymnasts. There is a workplace pension scheme in operation.
Start date should be no later than 15th October 2022 due to the needs of the business and applicants must be able to live and work in the UK.
